Andrew Sneed is one of today's young musicians exploring the scene. Currently experimenting mainly with jazz, he is developing his abilities in the big band realm as well as small combos. Inspired by his dad, saxophonist Warren Sneed, he started playing piano at age six. A few months later Sneed left the piano for the set.
Sneed had early exposure to jazz and other music alike; it was no suprise to his family when he decided to play drums. He was intrigued by the idea and enjoyed listening to other drummers. He had an urge to practice and tried to recreate what he heard. He took private lessons with several teachers, and studied with Samantha Banks for several years.
Soon he began playing with bands - developing his swing feel and gaining experiance working with other musicians. He entered the Summer Jazz Workshop a few years later, where he met up with saxophonists Evan Burrus and Sam Phillips, drummer Jeremy Dutton, and pianist Sterling Overshown. Together they formed SwingStreet Jazz Band, which later evolved into Enharmonic Equivalent. Although SwingStreet was mainly experimental, they performed on the stay-at-home mom's favorite show Great Day Houston and opened up for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Jone's Hall. Since then they have had many other performances, and Sneed has begun to play with a few other groups.
The experience he gained has been incredibly valuable to his musical career. Sneed has worked with many other young musicians, each with the same goals, and studied with many teachers, and he's not done yet. He inherited a gift of technology from his mom, Cindy Sneed, (programing, electronics, recording, and skills related), and every day looks for new ways to blend them all with music, creating complex database driven interfaces and experimenting with the internet and the computer's capabilities.
